The leaves are changing and fall is upon us. While there will be many special activities and festivals this season, one tradition is back and hopes to be better than ever.

The Ironton Lions Club Haunted Tunnel opens tonight and club members have ensured many changes and updates to the attractions that are sure to keep those, brave enough to enter, on their toes.

Each year Ironton Lions Club members dedicate many hours of volunteer work to keep the haunted tunnel, in the historic State Route 75 highway tunnel, clean and safe, constantly renovating and upgrading the property.

The tunnel will be open 7-11 p.m. each Friday and Saturday in October, including Halloween night, and this couldn’t be possible without the many people who give of their evenings to dress in scary costumes, run the ticket booth and usher the crowds.

But those who attend the attraction are also doing a great community service as well. The $5 admission price helps the Lions Club raise money for all sorts of community projects. The tunnel is its biggest fundraiser, and without it, the club could not help support the various projects it undertakes.

Some of those are the Ironton- Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade Committee, the Ironton Christmas Parade, Ironton In Bloom, the City Welfare Mission and projects that include providing eyeglasses to children.

The tunnel has been very successful in years past and we hope this year is no exception.
