MOREHEAD, Ky. — It turns out that 13 was a lucky number for the South Point Pointers’ soccer team.

The Pointers used a goal by Matt Krivan with an assist by Jake Helton with only six seconds to play that gave them a 2-1 win over the Rowan County Vikings Wednesday for their 13th win of the season.

Not only was it the Pointers’ 13th win but it set a school record for most wins in a season.

“We played one of our best games we’ve played,” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy. “We were missing four players to the league cross country meet, so that made it even more impressive.”

An unassisted goal by Trevor P’Simer 10 minutes into the game gave Rowan County a 1-0 lead.

South Point (13-1) tied the game at the 53-minute mark of the second half before the last-second goal to win it.

The Pointers’ goalkeeper Brady Rickard had 15 saves. Alex Mays had 10 saves for Rowan County.

The Pointers host Chesapeake on Thursday with a girls’ game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 8 p.m. They host Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph at 4 p.m. on Friday.
