PEDRO — Everyone has one of those days. The Rock Hill Redmen seem to be having more than their share.

The Redmen have been close to victory on several occasions including Friday’s 55-51 Ohio Valley Conference loss to the River Valley Raiders.

Rock Hill is now 5-9 overall and 0-7 in the OVC. The Redmen have now lost three games by four points or less.

“We just can’t catch a break,” said Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds.

Adding to Rock Hill’s woes was River Valley’s long-range shooting. The Raiders were 7-of-15 from behind the arc with five 3-pointers coming in the first half.

“They were hot early and built a big lead and we had to battle back the whole game,” Wilds said.

River Valley (3-8, 2-4) was 19-of-40 from the field for the game. Rock Hill was 22-of-44 for 50 percent but just 9-of-25 in the second half.

The Redmen were 3-of-4 from the line while the Raiders connected on 10-of-21 attempts.

Ryan Albright had 14 points and Sam Cooke 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Rock Hill.

River Valley had three players in double figures as Cody Smith scored 15, Cody McAvena 13 and Aaron Harrison 11.

Harrison and McAvena combined for 11 points in the first quarter as the Raiders took a 19-12 lead.

Cooke scored 8 points and Albright 6 in the second quarter as the Redmen cut the deficit to 35-30. Smith scored 10 of his points in the first half.

McAvena got 7 points in the third quarter to match Rock Hill’s output and build a 47-37.

Jeremy Blagg and Albright had 5 points each in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill had two chances to tie the score in the final 30 seconds but failed to connect.

The Raiders made only one field goal in the fourth quarter.
