Earl Henderson

April 13, 1922 — Dec. 4, 2014

 

Earl H. Henderson, 92, of Proctorville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. He was born April 13, 1922, in Proctorville, son of the late Mont and Nannie Henderson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edna Henderson; brother, Richard Henderson; sister, Helen Casto; and nephew, Eddie Henderson.

He was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from Semete-Solvay Company as a stationary steam engineer and also from Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

He is survived by two daughters, Earlein (Ron) Meadows and Lorelei (Danny) Holschuh; four grandchildren, Chris Mount, Randy Mount, DeeAnna (Brad) Mayo and Dustin Holschuh; five great-grandchildren, Keith, Garrett and Levi Mount, and Cameron and Chloe Mayo; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville by pastor Ronnie Henderson. Burial will follow at Slab Fork Cemetery in Pedro. Proctorville VFW Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. William Owens

Feb. 22, 1928 — Nov. 27, 2014

 

William Owens, 86, of Round O, South Carolina, husband of Mary Owens, entered into eternal rest Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. The service to celebrate his life was Dec. 2, 2014, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home chapel, with burial at Carolina Memorial Park.

William was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Ironton, the oldest son of the late William R. and Bertha Martin Owens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 26 years and upon retirement became the purchasing director of Old Dominion University.

A patient and loving man, he is survived by his wife, Mary (the love of his life), to whom he was married more than 60 years; sons, William Jr. and Gary Alvin; daughter, Vanessa Jo; five brothers, Ralph (Eddy), Don, Glen, Dick and Lee; and five sisters, Wanda Jean Littlejohn, Helen Huff, Juanita Fairall, Deloris Koenig and Nancy Martin.

He had 14 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Roger Dale; and brothers, Don, Dick and Glenn Owens.

 

 

Robert Mittendorf

Robert Lee Mittendorf, M.D., DrPH, 71, formerly of Ironton, passed away on Nov. 21, 2014.

He is survived by his son, Jeffery David; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Triant; his son, Robert William; his daughter, Inga; his three grandchildren, Kyra Amanda, Aaron Andrew and Shaun Anthony; and his first cousins, Deborah Mittendorf, Russell Mittendorf and Michael Imber (son of Jill Whitley Imber). His wife, Dr. Peggy Herschel, passed in 2004.

Dr. Mittendorf is a graduate of the Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, where he earned a Doctor of Public Health. Dr. Mittendorf was a cerebral palsy researcher with more than 100 scientific citations of the National Library of Medicine. In 1961, he was valedictorian, class president and editor-in-chief of the yearbook at Russell High School.

Dr. Mittendorf’s mother was Jane Whitley Mittendorf, an educator. His father, Robert William Mittendorf, was a longtime employee of Semet-Solvay and a World War II veteran. During World War II, Dr. Mittendorf’s paternal grandfather, Ralph, was Ironton city manager. His maternal grandfather, Lloyd Whitley, was administrator of the Lawrence County General Hospital.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the First Parish Milton-Unitarian Universalist Church at 535 Canton Avenue in Milton, Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Dolan and Chapman Funeral Home in Milton Village. Interment will be at Milton Cemetery.

 

Glenn Pritchard

Glenn Franklin Pritchard, 52, of Ironton, husband of Cherie L. Bazell Pritchard, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

 

David Graham

David Ray Graham Sr., 87, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at home. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Starr Blankenship Graham. Funeral service is 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville by pastor Glen Robinson. Entombment will follow in Rome Cemetery. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Marla Workman

May 25, 1955 — Dec. 4, 2014

 

Marla Lou Workman, 59, of Franklin, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at the Butler and Warren Hospice House with her family at her side.

She was born May 25, 1955, a daughter of Ralph Dempsey Ellis and the late Mary Josephine Crosby Ellis. Marla Was a graduate of Man High School, loved her children and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence “Eddie” Ellis.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Darrell Workman; two sons, Mathew and Johnathon Workman; three brothers, Donald Gene Ellis and his wife, Carol, Paul David Ellis and his wife, Brenda, and Jerry Lee Ellis; five sisters, Ruth Ellis and her husband, Herman, Carla Hall and her husband, Johnny, Tommy Simpson and her husband, Jerry, Dorothy Porter, Joann Grimmett and her husband, Phillip; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. today in the Greenville Freewill Baptist Church with pastor Baxtor Tolor and the Rev. Phillip Grimmitt officiating with special singing by Angie Simpson and Amy McCoy. Burial will follow in the Workman Family Cemetery in Auburn, West Virginia.

Her family has entrusted her care to her family at the Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.
