CHESAPEAKE — Thanks to some rebounding, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers rebounded.

Kaylee Curry had 23 points and 13 rebounds while Sydnee Hall added 15 points and 6 rebounds as Chesapeake bounced back from a loss on Monday to beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 65-37 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Tonight it came down to bouncing back from a tough loss. We tried to make things right and I think we did that for the most parts,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

“It’s good to get a win after a tough road loss.”

Hall also had 5 steals and Curry had 3 thefts. Brooke Webb also had 3 steals and turned in a good defensive effort as Portsmouth’s Peighton Williams.

“We did a good job of containing Williams who is one of the better players in the area. Webb played well against Williams. She gave us a boost off the bench,” said Ball.

Williams finished with 11 points to lead the Lady Trojans (0-6, 0-4).

Chesapeake (3-1, 2-1) fell behind 11-8 in the first quarter as Jada Jenkins scored 5 points for Portsmouth.

But Curry knocked down 11 points in the second quarter as the Lady Panthers rallied to take a 26-23 halftime lead.

Sharia Kerns got 5 points in the third quarter to offset 6 by Curry as Portsmouth cut the lead to 36-34.

But Hall had 5 points in the fourth quarter and the defense held the Lady Trojans to just 3 points.
