SCIOTOVILLE — The big three came up big for the Sciotoville East Tartans.

Akia Brown, Tyler Gerald and Blaine Scott combined for all but three of the Tartans points as they outlasted the Symmes Valley Vikings 73-67 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“The kids gave a great effort. East was just a little better,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders. “We got a lot of guys scoring, so that was an improvement.

“The defense wasn’t that bad, we were just outmatched in some situations and you can score a lot of points in that gym.”

Brown had a game-high 29 points, Gerald was right behind with 27 points and Scott scored 14 for the Tartans.

Symmes Valley (2-10, 1-6) had a more balanced offense with four players in double figures and two more just missing.

Shawn Belville scored 14 points for the Vikings. Jarod Shepherd had 12 points, Matt Rutt 11 and Jacob Klaiber 10. Collin Webb and Payton Hayes scored 9 points each.

The Vikings took a 17-13 first quarter lead as Belville had 6 points and Rutt scored 5. Gerald and Scott had 5 each for the Tartans.

Brown scored 8 points in the second quarter as East rallied to take a 30-29 halftime lead.

Brown got 9 points in the third quarter as East pulled away to a 54-48 lead. Webb, Belville and Rutt scored 4 points each for the Vikings.

Hayes had 5 points, Shepherd 4 and Webb hit a 3-pointer as the Vikings outscored the Tartans 20-19 in the fourth quarter, but Gerald and Brown accounted for all of East’s points including 5 of 7 from the foul line.

The Vikings host SOC-leading Portsmouth Clay on Tuesday.
