Gladys Crawford

Dec. 21, 1937 — Jan. 21, 2015

Gladys Faye McCorkle Crawford, 77, of Pedro, died on Wednesday Jan. 21, 2015, at Jo- Lin Health Center. She was born Dec. 21, 1937, the daughter of the late John Perry and Mary Willis McCorkle.

She was a member of Etna Baptist Church. Granny Faye, as she was known by those who loved her, was a hard-working, selfless, compassionate woman. From her days making rate on the line at Wilson’s Sporting Goods until the day she left her position as bookkeeper at the Ohio Center for Youth and Family Development to stay home with her grandchildren and to take care of her elderly parents, Granny Faye was a model employee. She was an even better daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the Cincinnati Reds, the daily crossword, and her flower gardens. She now rests in peace and love, free from the grip of Alzheimer’s disease, which she battled bravely with her husband and family by her side.

Survivors include her husband, James Crawford, of Pedro; one daughter and son-in-law, Tami McCorkle (Jim) Tordiff, of Ironton; stepchildren, James Crawford, Jeff (Linn) Crawford, and Linda Huston; three sisters, Marjorie Markel, Libby Newman, and Janice Kerns; one brother, Tom McCorkle, all of Pedro; grandchildren, Courtney (Brad) Johnson, Tanner (Becky) Heaberlin, and Lindsey (Nick) Snavely; five great-grandchildren, Ellen Jane, Brady, Lucian, Nixon and Vivian Faye; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Sid McCorkle; and one sister, Helen Felonise (Mom Mom) McCorkle Sharp.

Funeral will be noon on Saturday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Carter officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Donations can be made to Community Hospice in her name.
