It’s a lot easier to play with the lead. And more fun.

The St. Joseph Female Flyers jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and breezed to a 65-40 rout of the Portsmouth West Lady Senators on Saturday.

“West is a better team than their record shows. They’ve played a pretty good schedule. They were competitive and we were able to jump on them early and play most of the game with a big lead,” said Female Flyers’ coach Nick Miller.

Hannah Miller scored 19 points, Lynsey Booker had 18 and Amber Neal added 14 to lead St. Joseph (12-4).

Booker scored 10 points in the first quarter and Neal added 5 more points as the Female Flyers took an 18-9 lead.

Miller got the hot hand in the second quarter with 12 points including a pair of trifectas and it was 38-18 at the half.

McKenzie Whittaker had all 9 of her points in the second quarter.

Neal scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Female Flyers extended the lead to 56-32. MaKayla White had 7 of her 11 points in the quarter for West.

Five different players scored in the fourth quarter for the Female Flyers.

St. Joseph hosts New Boston on Monday.
