GALLIPOLIS — The Chesapeake Panthers aren’t about to see a plastic surgeon.

The Panthers might not have looked good on Tuesday, but they still felt good inside after a 59-41 win over the Gallipolis Blue Devils.

“It wasn’t the prettiest, but we played good defense most of the time,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis.

Brad Meadows had 12 points and nine rebounds while Aaron Thompson had 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Panthers (17-1). Austin Carpenter scored 11 points off the bench.

Gallipolis (3-17) was led by Michael Putney with 11 points and Wes Jarrell scored 10 to go with six rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots. Alex White had eight rebounds and three steals.

The Panthers’ defense held Gallipolis to 18 of 48 shooting from the field for 37.5 percent.

With the game tied at 10 with 1:30 left in the first quarter, Chesapeake went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter and take the lead for good.

Kolton Webb hit a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter for the Panthers.

Chesapeake managed just 7 points in the second quarter but held onto a 24-21 halftime lead. Wes Jarrell scored 6 points for Gallipolis in the quarter.

Thompson scored 11 points and the Panthers dominated the boards 17-4 in the third quarter as they opened up a 47-31 cushion.

Chesapeake outscored Gallipolis 10-0 over the final three minutes of the quarter.

The Panthers went on a 9-2 run to begin the fourth quarter as they took their biggest lead of the game at 56-33 with 4:25 to play.

Chesapeake — leading the Ohio Valley Conference by a half-game over Portsmouth — hosts Ironton on Friday in a league game.

Portsmouth hosts Fairland on Friday.
