GALLIPOLIS — Even when they see new things, the Fairland Lady Dragons seem to keep the same results.

When Gallipolis threw a new defensive twist, the Lady Dragons changed their plans and came away with another win as they beat the Blue Angels 61-47 on Thursday.

“They did some things defensively that bothered us, but we did a good job making adjustments,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Caitlin Stone scored 21 points including four 3-pointers to lead the Lady Dragons (16-3) while Kelsey Riley scored 16 points.

Besides her points, Stone also had seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Micah Curfman made six 3-pointers and scored 21 points for Gallipolis (13-7). Jordan Walker added 10 points.

Mackenzie Riley scored 6 of her 9 points in the first quarter as Fairland took a 15-11 lead.

Gallipolis got within 21-20 with 3:40 left in the half, but Fairland went on a 9-0 run and Stone had 9 points in the second quarter as Fairland pushed its lead to 30-22 at the half.

Fairland outscored Gallipolis 11-7 in the third quarter and held Gallipolis scoreless over the final 4:20 of the quarter to lead 41-29.

Stone scored 7 points as Fairland went on a 13-6 run to start the fourth quarter.

Curfman scored 15 of her points in the fourth quarter as she hit four 3-pointers over the final 3:15 of the game in a 12-7 run, but Emily Chapman converted 4-of-4 at the foul line.

“We gave up way too many 3s considering they are a 3-point shooting and offensive rebounding team. But most of those 3s were in the fourth quarter,” said Buchanan.

Fairland plays South Webster at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday in the Tackett’s Body Shop Shootout at Ironton.
