CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers saved their best for last.

With both teams struggling to score in the first three quarters, the Lady Panthers stepped up their offense in the fourth quarter and pulled away from the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 46-33 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Chesapeake (11-9, 5-6) scored just 24 points over three quarter before erupting for 22 points in the fourth stanza.

“For three quarters it was two teams playing hard and playing good defense,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

“The fourth quarter we were able to get to the foul line and make some free throw. We were more aggressive attacking the basket.”

Sydnee Hall led Chesapeake with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Kaylee Curry had 13 points and 15 rebounds while Kelsey Curry added 6 points, five rebounds and five steals.

“Kelsey Curry and Sydnee Hall both contributed in a lot of ways. They’re our two seniors and they had big games on senior night. I’ve enjoyed being around them for the past four years,” said Ball.

Coal Grove (9-11, 7-4) was led by Jacy Jones with 13 points. Leslie Mulkey added 9 points.

Beals scored 4 points for the Lady Hornets as they took a 9-8 first quarter lead.

Hall got 5 points in the second quarter as Chesapeake went up 15-14 at the half. Mulkey got 5 points for the Lady Hornets.

Curry’s 5 points in the third quarter helped the Lady Panthers extend the lead to 24-20.

In the fourth quarter, Hall had 10 points including 6-of-6 at the foul line. Jones had 8 points for the Lady Hornets as she hit a 3-pointer and converted 5-of-6 at the line.

On Monday, Coal Grove hosts Ironton and Chesapeake visits Fairland in OVC games.
