The Rock Hill Redwomen turned in a strong effort as they beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 62-54 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Kaci Russell scored 21 points to lead four Rock Hill players in double figures.

Anna Darby recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Madison Damron had 11 points and four assists and Jill Hairston also scored 11 points for the Redwomen (6-14, 3-8).

“We played good team ball. The girls played really hard the whole game,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

“Portsmouth has improved. Jenkins kept them in the game the first half, but Russell had a big second half for us.”

Portsmouth (2-17, 1-11) was led by Peighton Williams with 15 points and Jada Jenkins scored 13.

Darby went 6-of-6 from the foul ine as Rock Hill took a 12-10 first quarter lead.

Damron and Hairston each hit 3-pointers in the second quarter as Rock Hill pulled away to a 28-20 halftime lead.

Russell scored 18 of her points in the second half as each team scored 34 points.

The Redwomen visit South Point on Monday in a league game to end the regular season.
