Cancer patient programs abound

Did you know funds that are raised in your community go not to only research but to many programs to help in so many ways?

Here is an overview of services that are available in many communities:

We have programs and services in your community to help people with cancer and their families. Our programs offer information, day-to-day help, and emotional support.

To learn more about these programs, contact us 24 hours a day, seven days a week at cancer.org or 1-800-227-2345.

Trained cancer information specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions about cancer, including information on diagnosis and treatment, and to link callers with resources in their communities and nationwide.

A user-friendly site, cancer.org, provides in-depth information on every major type of cancer, as well as an email service to help answer your questions.

The American Cancer Society Clinical Trials Matching Service is a free, confidential program that helps patients, their families, and health care workers find cancer clinical trials most appropriate to a patient’s medical and personal situation. Call 1-800-303-5691 to speak to one of our specialists.

The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides free rides for cancer patients to and from treatments. Trained volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help patients get to the treatments they need. Other transportation resources may also be available in your area.

The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® program provides free overnight lodging to cancer patients and their caregivers who have to travel away from home for treatment. We also partner with local hotels across the country to provide free or reduced-rate rooms for cancer patients and their caregivers traveling for treatment.

The American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Program and cancer resource centers can help guide patients and families through their cancer experience. They can provide information and connect you with day-to-day help and emotional support.
