WMU escapes Ohio

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — David Brown made a career-high eight 3-pointers and scored 34 points on Monday night to help No. 6 seed Western Michigan beat 11th-seeded Ohio 82-74 and advance to the second round of the Mid-American Conference tournament.

Thomas Wilder added 18 points and five assists for Western Michigan (20-12), which has won at least 20 games in each of the last three seasons and will play No. 7 seed Akron on Wednesday.

Mike Laster’s jumper with 12:58 left gave Ohio (10-20) a 52-44 lead, but Brown scored the final eight points — including back-to-back 3-pointers — during a 10-0 run which gave the Broncos a two-point lead about three minutes later.

Wilder’s jumper with 5:56 left gave Western Michigan the lead, 62-60, for good and he scored eight during an 13-2 run which made it 80-68 with 61 seconds remaining.

Ndour finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Stevie Taylor scored a career-high 25, for Ohio.
