Defiance 49, Cleve. Cath. 45

COLUMBUS (AP) — Wes Detter made the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime and also hit two critical technical foul shots late in regulation to lift Defiance to a 49-45 victory over Cleveland Central Catholic in the Division II state title game on Saturday night.

It was the first title for the fifth-ranked Bulldogs (27-2), who were making their third trip to the state tournament — but first in 75 years.

Katwan Singleton, a second-team Associated Press all-stater, had 18 points and 11 rebounds and his brother, Kameron, added 14 points for Defiance.

First-team All-Ohioan Antwon Lillard had 24 points for the eighth-ranked Ironmen (24-5), but he was called for the technical for hanging onto the rim on a dunk with 44 seconds left in regulation.
