LATHAM — The Symmes Valley Vikings were a big hit in their opener.

The Vikings banged out 13 hits as they routed the Western Indians 15-2 in five innings on Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

The Vikings (1-0, 1-0) collected nine hits in the first inning including a two-run double by Dillon McFann as they took a 9-2 lead.

McFann was 3-3 and Cameron Meadows 4-4 to lead the offense. Payton Hayes was 2-4.

The strong offense backed the strong pitching of Trent Thompson who gave up four hits, struck out eight and walked two. He also hit a batter.

The Vikings host Chesapeake on Wednesday and play at Green on Friday.
