PEDRO — It was a defensive play that ignited the fire to the offense and pitching.

Rock Hill centerfielder Jenna Lane turned a double play in the first inning that spark the Redwomen to an 8-1 win over the Lewis County Lady Lions on Wednesday.

With runners at second and third bases and no outs in the first inning, Lane caught a fly ball and threw home to double up the runner trying to score.

Rock Hill got out of the inning with no runs being scored.

“That play gave us a little momentum,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue. “We rallied in the bottom of the inning and then had solid pitching the rest of the game. Jill was hitting her spots.”

Rock Hill (4-0) used the momentum to get three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Kaci Russell singled, moved up on a passed ball andthen Lane singled and stole second. Both runners scored on wild pitches.

Jill Hairston singled, moved around to third on a couple of wild pitches and Kenzie Harrah hit a sacrifice fly.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third inning when Lane walked, Harrah had an RBI double and Riann Keating drove in a run with a ground out.

The Redwomen got three insurance runs in the fourth inning.

Lilly McGinnis singled, Taylor Hall had a sacrifice, Russell was hit by a pitch, Lane put down a sacrifice bunt as a run scored, a wild pitch scored a run and Hairston singled home the final run.
