Symmes offers much

This time of year, when people talk about Symmes Creek, the thought of heavy rains causing severe flooding comes to mind. In turn, the creek becomes inundated with trash and other obstructions like trees and debris.

Bringing awareness to these things and continuing improvement efforts of the stream is the goal of the Symmes Creek Restoration Committee. Again this year, the committee will host several events beginning next month and continuing through early fall.

These are important events not only for the organization but for Lawrence County as well. Symmes Creek and all other resources are vital for all Lawrence County residents.

Each of the options provide something for everyone, whether you are a seasoned outdoors person or someone who wants to start, many of the events hosted by the committee will provide just that.

These events include the Fun Float scheduled for May 16 will allow for a relaxing trip, the cleanup to be held at the campsite area at Timber Ridge Lake on June 26, the annual Canoe Caper on Aug. 8 and the women in sports in September.

Working to keep these resources clean and available for residents and visitors to use is an essential component, and we encourage those who can attend any or all of these events to help continue future efforts of the Symmes Creek Restoration Committee.
