The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers need to finish what they start.

Ironton had a 7 -2 lead but couldn’t hold on as the Portsmouth Lady Trojans rallied for an 11-8 Ohio Valley Conference win in eight innings on Friday.

“We had a hard time finishing an inning with two outs or a batter with two strikes tonight,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“(Kylee) Metzger struggled with consistency tonight and they got some runs on wild pitches. She hasn’t done that this year. And Portsmouth is a great hitting team. They hit several gaps tonight.”

Portsmouth had 16 hits as Jada Jenkins went 4-5 with a double and Peighton Williams 3-5.

Portsmouth had four doubles.

Ironton banged out 18 hits as Aley Carmon was 3-3 and Breanna Klaiber 2-5 with a double and a home run.

Kylie Barcus, Kenzie Cremeens and Katie Burcham each went 3-5 and Zjaytia Black-Mize 2-5, Ariel Whitt 1-4 and Taylor Monk 1-5 for Ironton.

“The girls are hitting well right now. Getting 18 hits is something to be proud of, but we have some things to work on to be tournament ready,” said Fields.
