The seniors were in the spotlight, so they decided to shine.

Ironton seniors Kylee Metzger, Ariel Whitt and Taylor Monk celebrated senior night with some strong performances as the Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets 10-4 on Wednesday.

Metzger got the pitching win with five strikeouts and just one walk. She also went 2-2 with a home run.

Whitt had a hit, Aley Carmon was 2-4 with two doubles, and Kylie Barcus was 2-3 as Ironton collected nine hits.

“Tonight was senior night and our three seniors helped lead the team to a good win. Metzger pitched a good game. She was hitting her spots well,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“Taylor Monk made some nice running catches in centerfield. She hustled to the balls that were in the gap and held Wellston to a single base on several shots. Ariel Whitt had another good defensive game. She covers a lot of ground out there at second base. I am very proud of those three. Their leadership has been great.”

Ironton hosts Minford on Friday in the Division III sectional tournament.
