Mary Hayes

Mary M. Hayes, 75, of 42 Carson Avenue, Dalton, Massachusetts, died Sunday at Craneville Place of Dalton, where she had resided for the past few weeks. Born on Jan. 7, 1940, in Coal Grove, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Norrella McKean Hart.

A longtime Dalton resident, she was educated in Ohio schools and was a 1958 graduate of Coal Grove High School, where she played the trumpet in the school band. She married her husband, the late Pierce J. Hayes on April 2, 1968, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He died on Dec. 13, 2007. Mrs. Hayes was primarily a homemaker where she enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling and spending summers at the family cottage on Pontoosuc Lake.

She leaves two sons, John A. Jenkins and his wife Shelley, of Dalton, Massachusetts and Shawn J. Hayes and his significant other, Michelle Kellar-Creamer, of Pittsfield, Masschusetts; a daughter; Jill Taylor and her significant other, Timothy Daury, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She also leaves a daughter who she fostered, Kathy McGraw, of Roanoke, Virginia; three sisters, Karen Dickess and her husband Dennis, of Ironton, Margie Klegg and her husband Tom, of Newburgh, New York and Rose Hensley, of Coal Grove; two brothers, Earl Hart and his wife Esther, of Franklin Furnace and Merrill Frische of Sandusky; as well as her sister-in-law, Mary Hayes of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Johnathan P. Jenkins, Samantha R. Jenkins Kehrer, Jaimie L. Taylor, Shawn J. Hayes Jr. and Bryanna L. Hayes. She was predeceased by three brothers, Cos Hart, Fred Frische and Gerald Frische; as well as by three sisters, Joyce Hart, Joanne Stevens and Faye Butler. She will be greatly missed by her loving dog “Nicky”.

Funeral services for Mary M. Hayes of Dalton, Massachusetts, who died July 26, 2015, will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Dery-Foley Funeral Home in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Dalton co-celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor and the Rev. John Salatino, pastor of St. Mark Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Michael Hanshaw

Michael Byron Hanshaw, 65, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Community Hospice Care, Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Hanshaw was born Jan. 18, 1950, in Ironton, a son to the late Henry Byron and Edna (Evans) Hanshaw. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol Kelley Hanshaw, whom he married July 23, 1982.

Mr. Hanshaw attended Ironton High School. He was a self-employed auto body and upholstery repairman. His hobbies included attending and participating in Classic Car Shows and Cruise-ins, was a huge fan of NASCAR and he enjoyed going to watch NASCAR Races. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant son, Michael Lee Hanshaw.

In addition to his wife, he is survived in daughter, Ginger (Mark) Musick, of Oak Hill; sister, Theda Hanshaw Leach, of Columbus; three grandsons, Nathan Evans, of Huntington, West Virginia, Wesley (Ashley McCain) Evans, of Oak Hill and Michael (Christa) Evans, of Wheelersburg; three great-granddaughters, Gracie and Savannah Evans, both of Oak Hill and Addison Evans, of Wheelersburg; two stepsons, Christian Miller, of Orlando, Florida and David Miller, of Ironton; stepgrandson, Zach Miller, of Ironton; and nephew, Brian Hanshaw, of Columbus.

A memorial service will be at the conveniences of the family. Donations are requested in Michael’s name to Community Hospice Care, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101. Jennie Jiles

Jennie Mae Jiles 72, of Olive Furnace/South Webster died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at her home. She was the wife of the Rev. Kenneth Jiles who survives. Arrangements are pending at Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.

 

 

Elnor Carter-Detty

Elnor Carter-Detty, 74 of Greenup, Kentucky, died on Monday, July 27, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. She was the wife of Warren Richard Detty, who survives. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carman Funeral Home, Flatwoods, Kentucky.

 Louise Lavender

Louise (Bruce) Sark Lavender, 82, of Deering, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, at a local nursing home. Mrs. Lavender was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Deering, a daughter to the late James M. and Effie (Langdon) Bruce. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Delbert Sark, Jr. and second husband, the Rev. Walter Lavender.

Mrs. Lavender was a 1951 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and attended Ashland School of Commerce. She was a former employee of Citizen National Bank, Lawrence Federal Savings and Loan and the Ironton Tribune. Louise was a lifetime member of Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was saved Jan. 20, 1946, and baptized in the creek on Wildwood Drive (Possum Hollow) Easter Sunday, 1948.

She was also preceded in death by brother, James M. Bruce; and sister, Mary Ann Jordan.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Lee (Tim) Robinson of Deering; son, Stephen Bruce (Gina) Sark, of Louisville, Kentucky; three stepchildren, Bruce Keith (Karen) Lavender, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Walter Gale (Carol) Lavender, of Florida and Mary Diane (Steve) Corn of South Point; two grandchildren, Brianna Faith Robinson, of Deering and Taylor Alexandra Sark of Louisville, Kentucky; six stepgrandchildren, Kimberly (Ray) Richardson, of Florida, Beth (Brad) Wiseman, of Indiana, Melissa Lavender of Chillicothe, Sara (David) Moore, of Grayson, Kentucky, Ryan Corn, of Florida and Ashley Malone, of South Point; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Hannah Diane Corn, Sarah Olivia Corn and Nicholas Mederios; and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John Hankins of Sebring, Florida.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 5121 State Route 243, Ironton, with the Rev. Todd Warner, the Rev. Johnny Riley and the Rev. John Hankins officiating. Burial will follow in Ice Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church with music beginning 30 minutes prior to service. Nancy JoAnn Segovia, 46, of Columbus, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. She is survived by her husband, Juan D. Segovia.
