SOUTH POINT — This was all about being in control.

The Symmes Valley Vikings controlled the clock, the line of scrimmage and consequently the game as they blanked the South Point Pointers 26-0 on Friday in a non-league game.

“We controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides. Our kids did what they needed to do. I was very proud of them. We played well in all three phases of the game,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

“They had a good game plan for us and our kids were able to make the adjustments.”

The Vikings time of possession was 31:23 compared to the Pointers’ 16:37. The Vikings also ran 54 times for 300 yards and held the Pointers to 10 net yards on 22 attempts.

“Defensively we had good pressure. Our defensive line played extremely well. Our linebackers filled the gaps. (Defensive tackle) Dakota Watson played really well,” said Webb.

After a dropped touchdown pass on their first possession, the Vikings came back with an 87-yard, 10-play drive that spilled over into the second quarter.

Collin Webb ran 3 yards for the score with 11:50 left in the half. Blake Bowen kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

Following a three-and-out, Symmes valley went on a 70-yard, 10-play march capped by Brandon Craft’s 14-yards run and it was 13-0 with 4:26 left in the half.

“We had some bad things happen early, but our kids never dropped their heads. They just kept playing and the offense would just grind it out,” said coach Webb.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Vikings had a 47-yard, 9-play drive that ended on a halfback pass from Craft to Curtis Lybrand for 21 yards to make it 20-0 with 7:12 to play.

The Vikings’ backups added the final score with an 8-play, 60-yard drive that saw Austin Waugh go the final yard and it was 26-0.

Symmes Valley (5-3) ran 54 times for an even 300 yards and added 73 passing.

Craft carried 13 times for 82 yards, Payton Hayes 11 times for 70 yards, and Collin Webb had 11 attempts for 60 yards.

Lybrand had all four Symmes Valley receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Jennings Smith ran six times for 31 yards for the Pointers (2-6).
