CHESAPEAKE — Having played each other twice in the regular season as members of the Ohio Valley Conference, there was nothing new to see.

So the South Point Lady Pointers and Chesapeake Lady Panthers put on a show for the fans to see in the Division III sectional volleyball finals on Saturday.

The Lady Pointers were able to show off just a little more as they battled past the Lady Panthers in five sets, 25-22, 27-25, 14-25, 22-25 and 15-6 in the tiebreaker.

“The crowd was electric tonight and the girls on both sides played their hearts out,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Allen Perry. “We were fortunate to come away tonight with the victory.”

South Point’s lone senior — Olivia Abner — and Mackenzie Fugitt both had 18 kills to lead the offense. Brooklyn Badgett racked up 34 assists.

Rachael Wheeler and Abner controlled the net as Abner had 4 blocks and Wheeler 3.

Leah Lawson scrapped her way to 34 digs while Badgett had 20, Fugitt 18, Madison Kearns 17 and Hope Aylsworth 10 as the Lady Pointers put on an outstanding defensive display.

The Lady Pointers will now play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Waverly High School against Adena.
