PEDRO — The Rock Hill Board of Education voted on Friday to purchase new turf for the district’s sports fields.

Superintendent Wes Hairston said the school district is in a strong position financially, and was able to make the purchase for the Rock Hill High School football field and the baseball infield used by the middle and high schools.

“We feel our kids deserve to have nice facilities,” he said.

The baseball field is also used by the junior league.

The board also approved a one-time pay increase for classified and certified employees.

Hairston said the board had made a good faith promise in its last negotiation with employees to make an effort to get the increase.

“Our financial situation is very, very strong. Our board has done a good job of management” he said. “And, because the employees did a good job, we want to take care of the people who work for us.”
