Jean Wylie

Jean Ann Noll Wylie, 85, formerly of Chesapeake, passed away after a brief time of illness on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas. At the time of her passing, Jean Ann was surrounded by loved ones, who had the great privilege of enjoying more of her company these last years, since she relocated to Frisco, Texas in the summer of 2010, shortly after losing her beloved husband of 61 years, Donald Ray Wylie.

Jean Ann was born Aug. 20, 1930, to Hugh and Emma Brown Noll. She had three siblings, a sister, Betty Lou, who died as a child; and two older brothers who preceded her in death, Joseph (Laura) Noll and Wallace “Jack” (Beulah) Noll, who is survived by his children, Ronald Noll and Patty Noll Hopper, both of Texas. She graduated a proud Panther from Chesapeake High School in May of 1948 and married Don that same month. She gave birth to their first child during his service with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. While raising her two children, Jean Ann worked, cared for aging family and enjoyed attending swim meets for her kids, boating on the Ohio River and involving herself in many activities that kept her in the company of friends. She retired twice from Chesapeake West Elementary, where she served mainly in the library—returning to work after she and Don moved briefly to a lovely retirement community in Arizona, but quickly found themselves longing for home and friends.

In her later years, Jean Ann was known to be an excellent Bridge player. She was influential in organizing her first high school class reunion in 1992, and then continued that tradition over the years, even as it dwindled to a small group of classmates meeting regularly at Bob Evans. Since her move to Texas, one of Jean Ann’s greatest pursuits was staying in touch with people “back home.” Even so, she made many new friends in Frisco and remained very active. She drove herself to play Bridge the day before she was admitted to the hospital prior to her passing.

Jean Ann is now reunited with many loved ones in the presence of her Savior. She is survived by her two children, Linda Jean (Wayne) Bowman, of Celeste, Texas, and Richard Ray (Jill) Wylie, of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Donald (Natalie) Bowman, of Pittsbugh, Pennsylvania, Cassie (Cory) Martin, of Frisco, Texas, Ashleigh (Cory) Gann, of Montgomery, Texas and Alexis Wylie, of Plano, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandria Bowman, Jacob Bowman, Hayley Perez, Carli Martin, Corinna Martin, Isaiah Martin and Benjamin Martin; one great-great-grandaughter, Ariel Eve Rupprecht; two sisters-in-law, Donna Lee (Robert) Sanford, of Caldwell and Dorothy (William) Wylie, of Burlington; numerous nieces and nephews; and three very special cousins, Debra Brown Smith and Donna Brown Cremeans, both of Chesapeake and Glenda Lee Daniel Fletcher, of St. Albans, West Virginia. Jean Ann is also survived by her faithful and beloved Dachshund, Hector, who is now residing happily with her granddaughter, Lexi, enjoying a spacious backyard and the companionship of Jean’s grand-dog, a friendly Cocker Spaniel named Buddy.

A memorial service will be held at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home in Chesapeake at the convenience of the family, followed by interment of Jean’s ashes alongside her late husband at Rome-Proctorville Cemetery. Family and friends are encouraged to watch the Herald Dispatch and Ironton Tribune for a separate announcement of that service, likely in the spring or summer of 2016. William McDonough

William David McDonough entered into eternal rest on Nov. 18, 2015, after a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Bill was born in Ironton on Sept. 25, 1939. Graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School, Ironton, in 1958. Immediately after high school Bill joined the United States Navy as a submariner, serving on board the USS Conger (SS-477). Bill retired from the U.S. Navy and AT&T. He previously volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Hospice of the Comforter.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Joan, who died this past Feb. 8. They celebrated 54 years of marriage. Also predeceased by his daughter, Deirdre; brothers, Charles and Patrick; and both parents, Charles and Myrtle. Bill was adopted when he was a small child by his aunt and uncle, Kathryn and Norman Levine.

He is survived by his sons, William II, John and Christopher; and loving granddaughters, Hillary and Deirdre.

A viewing will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at DeGusipe Funeral Home, Maitland, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Annunciation Catholic Church, Altamonte Springs. He will be buried next to his loving wife and daughter in Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, Florida. The family would like to thank the clergy and staff at Annunciation Catholic Church and all caregivers at Hospice of the Comforter for their care and support.

Dolly Wilson

Dolly Wilson went to be with the Lord, Friday, Nov. 20, 2015. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 21, 1928, to the late Hershal Sr. and Gertrude Anson Pancake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Earl Wilson, whom she married April 9, 1949; brothers, Hershal Pancake Jr. and Jack Pancake; and a sister, Cora Roach; two infant brothers; and two infant sisters.

Dolly was a founding member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church and a cosmetologist for 25 years in a shop she had in her home in the country. She and Donald enjoyed camping and fishing. They were members of the Hitchmen and Pitchmen Buckeyes Camping Club. Their favorite places to camp were in the mountains and at the beach. Their favorite fishing spot was on the Cumberland River.

She is survived by her children, Donald Madison (Hilda) Wilson, of Pedro, and Cheri Ann (David) Wilson, of Willow Wood; grandchildren, Heather (Brett) Dillon, Josh Wilson, Noelle (Elijah) Bowling, Jordan (Tonya) Wilson and Holly (Nathan) Lambert; great-grandchildren, Hope Dillon, Lane Wilson, Carliegh Pinkerman, Gianna Pemberton, Jase Bowling, Rhiannon Wilson, Colt Lambert, Heidi Lambert and Eden Lambert; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Wilson McClure; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Monday at Aid Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Pancake officiating. A viewing for friends and family will be at the cemetery prior to the service. Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Abby Wilcoxon

Abby Lee Wilcoxon, 85, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Stanton, Kentucky native was born Jan. 14, 1930, a daughter of the late Marcus and Bessie Reed Bishop. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lester Dean Wilcoxon, who passed away January 22, 2006.

Mrs. Wilcoxon attended school in the Powell County School District, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, David Lee Wilcoxon and Michael Ray Wilcoxon; a sister, Dale Adams; and a brother, Ralph Bishop.

She is survived by three sons, William Dean Wilcoxon, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, Brian Keith Wilcoxon, of Coal Grove and Gregory Lee Wilcoxon, of Salt Rock, West Virginia; four sisters, Minnie Knox, Ruby Watson, Felmey Nolan, and Katherine Watson, all of Stanton, Kentucky; three brothers, Cash Bishop, Elish Bishop and Hezzie Bishop, both of Stanton, Kentucky; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G. Frederick Cooper, Sr.

Frederick P. Cooper, Sr., 83, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. Funeral service will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by pastor Brian Root. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.
