Jimmie Sparks

June 17, 1946 — Dec. 1, 2015

Jimmie Sparks, 69, of South Webster, passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Pedro native was born June 17, 1946, a son of the late Woodrow and Gladys Howard.

Mr. Sparks attended Rock Hill High School and was a former employee for Wal-Mart in Jackson, retiring in 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Sparks; a brother, George (Mary) Sparks; his good friend, James Bloomfield; his brother-in-law, Wood Sizemore; and his brother-in-law, Charles Pruitt.

He is survived by a son, Jimmie Wayne Sparks, of Oak Hill; one grandchild, Josh Sparks, of Ironton; five sisters, Darlene Pruitt and Delphine Price, both of Pedro, Sally McCrory, of Portsmouth, and Lillian Sizemore and Marge (George) Hankins, all of Marion; three brothers, Woody (Sadie) Sparks, Mark (Doris) Sparks, all of Pedro, and Danny Sparks, of South Webster; and a special friend, Birdie Woods, of South Webster.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850 and pastor Brian Phillips officiating. Karen Alene Cremeans, 68, of Chesapeake, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Westmoreland Place, Chillicothe. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Sterling L. Henderson, `95, of Huntington, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, in Columbia, Maryland. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Huntington. Herbert Neale Drake, 76, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by minister Paul Drake. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller. Gloria Hogsten

Gloria Alice Blagg Hogsten, 88, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with minister Willie Purdee officiating and burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Carmella Bryant

Carmella Bryant, 70, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at home. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

Thomas Shoup

Michael Adkins

Michael B. Adkins, 52, of Grayson, Kentucky, formerly of Man and Harts Creek areas of Logan County, West Virginia, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at the King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. He was cremated. A memorial service may be planned for a later date. Brown Funeral Chapel at Ironton is in charge of arrangements.
