RIO GRANDE — There’s a good chance that the Fairland Lady Dragons favorite number is “3.”

The Lady Dragons hit 10 of their 18 3-point goal attempts en route to a 66-41 rout of the Tolsia Lady Rebels on Saturday at the University of Rio Grande Shootout.

Emily Chapman and Taylor Perry each hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points apiece to lead Fairland (2-0).

“That’s the second game in a row we’ve shot the ball really well. We got the looks we wanted,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“We have a number of kids who can step out and shoot 3s more than ever before. I don’t know if anyone is as good as Caitlyn (Stone), but we have a lot of girls who can hit perimeter shot.”

Morgan Fridley hit 2-of-2 from behind the arc while Allie Marshall and Emma Fulton each had a 3-pointer.

Chapman also had six assists and three steals. Maddy Kazee grabbed six rebounds and Alesha Simpson snagged five.

Fairland led just 15-11 at the end of the first quarter before heating up and pulling away to a 34-19 halftime lead.

“We hit some shots, but that’s not won it for us. I thought it was our defense. We guarded well in both our games,” said Buchanan.

The Lady Dragons blew the game open in the third quarter by outscoring Tolsia 21-7 to stretch the lead to 55-26.

Fairland plays at Ironton on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
