Joseph Smith

Joseph Paul Smith, of South Point, formerly of Sharon, Pennsylvania, passed away on Nov. 29, 2015, in the Cleveland Clinic after complications from a double lung transplant in May. He was 66.

Joseph was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 31, 1949, the son of the late John W. and Elizabeth (Black) Smith. He was a 1967 graduate of Sharon High School and then earned a business degree from Youngstown State University.

In 1983, he founded and was CEO of Pyro-Chem Corporation, South Point, a leading manufacturer of premixed fire retardant mine sealants used in the underground coal mining industry. Joseph was a hard working businessman. He was of Presbyterian faith.

He was the husband of Gailene M. (Miller) Smith whom he married on July 22, 1988. She survives him at home. He is also survived by his stepson, Devin Garish of South Point and his grand daughter, Abby Garish, along with his sister, Anne Abbott and her husband, Jim of Elkton, Maryland. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Matthew Garish.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, Fisher Hill, Sharon, PA 16146.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 East State St., Sharon, Pennsylvania, at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Jason Minter officiating. Interment will take place at America’s Cemetery, Hermitage, Pennsylvania. Funeral arrangements by the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon.

Chester McCarty

Chester M. McCarty, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at CAMC, Hurricane, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife Sandra McCarty. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

 

Gloria Bray

Gloria Bray, 71, of Lawrence County, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.
