Frederic Bench

May 26, 1943 — Dec. 1, 2015

Frederic “Fred” W. Bench, 72, of Columbus, formerly of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Astoria Place of Columbus. Mr. Bench was born May 26, 1943, in Portsmouth, a son to the late Harold “Dick” and Virginia “Lee” (McKee) Bench.

Mr. Bench was a graduate of Ironton High School and was a former member of Ironton High School Band, where he held the position of Drum Major and was the first to twirl fire. He attended the Oberlin College in Ohio where he received his Bachelor of Arts and completed his education with a Masters Degree in German at the Cornell University in New York. He was a former German Professor at Marshall University and a cab driver. He was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church where he played piano.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Bench. He is survived by his pastor and friend, the Rev. Kevin Chambers; and several cousins and friends.

Perry Staley

Nov. 19, 1930 — Dec. 11, 2015

Perry Lee Staley, 85, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland. Perry was born Nov. 19, 1930, in Ironton, son of the late James and Kathleen Mays Staley. He joined his father and brother in operating Staley’s Pharmacy for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James, and his sister, Sally. He is survived by his wife, Jean Davidson Staley; son, Lee Staley; daughter, Patti (Phil) Rice; grandson, Anthony (Christian) Rice; great-granddaughter, Audrey Rice; sister, Kay Rader; and brother, Robert Staley.

At his request, there will be no visitation or services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sharon Baptist Church. Chet McCarty

Chet McCarty, 71, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at CAMC, Hurricane, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Sandra McCarty. Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Misty McClellan

Misty Leemae McClellan, 43, of Ironton, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Ironton. She is survived by her spouse, Anthony White. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.

 

John Dray

John Wesley Dray, 60, of South Point, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Funeral service will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Visitation will be today from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Roy Dennison

Roy E. Dennison, 78, of South Point, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at home. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with pastor Frank Tate officiating.
