The Ironton City Welfare Mission received a sizeable donation for the needy on Tuesday.

Wyatt Boggs, 16, a student at Dawson-Bryant High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 106, was unloading about 500 toys, filling a car and a half, for the mission to distribute to the needy next week.

Boggs said he and his troop had been collecting the toys since late November, with help from local churches and businesses.

Wal-Mart and Sam’s donated $80 to the effort, providing him with a gift card to pick up items for the drive.

Boggs, who is working toward the rank of Eagle Scout, said donating toys is something he’s done for a long time.

“Whenever I was little, up to the age of 12, I used to give my toys to Goodwill and other places,” he said. “It feels good to give back.”

Jeff Cremeans, the director of the mission, said toys will be distributed from 8 .am.-noon on Dec. 23 to needy families who have registered.

He said anyone who wants to contribute may drop off items at the mission.
