Shirley Adkins

Jan. 29, 1939 — Dec. 20, 2015

Shirley A. Adkins, 76, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at her residence. The Licking County native was born Jan. 29, 1939, a daughter of the late David and Pearl Thompson Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John R. Adkins.

Mrs. Adkins attended Rock Hill High School and was a homemaker. She loved going to church and was a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton. She loved to cook, gardening, her family and spending time with her grandkids. She also loved talking. She never met a stranger.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Adkins; a daughter, Carolyn Adkins; three sisters, Regina McSorley, Erma Davis, and Mary Roberts; and a brother, Charles Roberts.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Adkins, of Ironton and Danny (Jamie) Sexton, of Chesapeake; four daughters, Barbara (Bill) Allen, of Ironton, Brenda (Robert Bocook) Benicker, of Willow Wood, Mary (Delano) Bryant of Scottown and and Gina (Larry) Sexton, of Kitts Hill; a sister, Virginia (Ray) Wilson, of Ironton; a brother, William Roberts, of Ironton; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Kenny Ruggles officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Linda Fugett

Feb. 4, 1946—Dec. 21, 2015

Linda K. Fugett, 69, of Coal Grove, went to her Heavenly Home Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, from Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington. She was born in Ironton on Feb. 4, 1946, to the late Lawrence and Hazel (Massie) Vanderhoof. She is survived by her husband, Garland R. Fugett, whom she married June 20, 1975. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gordon Vanderhoof. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Kevin R. (Melanie) Vanderhoof, of Deering; a daughter, Donna Faye (B.J.) Blair, of Coal Grove; sisters, Phyllis Barker, of Ironton and Edna Dillow, of Deering; sister-in-law Ruth Vanderhoof, of Ironton; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver Janey Blankenship; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m.Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Brother Roger Friend officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Terrie Minard

May 6, 1958—Dec. 19, 2015

Terrie Renae Minard, of 6410 S. 72nd Lane, Laveen, Arizona, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on May 6, 1958, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Charles and Ruby Horn. Terrie was employed at Wal-Mart for 25 years and was manager of the store in Laveen.

Terrie is survived by her wife, Tracy Pennington; two sons Jerry Minard, of Phoenix, and Charles Minard, of Laveen; daughter-in-law Mrs. Charles (Jessica) Minard, of Laveen; three grandsons, Gary Lee Minard, of Ironton and Zack and Bryce Minard, of Laveen; and a sister Brenda Jenkins, of Kitts Hill.

No services will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Phoenix House or LGBT local.

 

Juanita Williams

March 1, 1935—Dec. 20, 2015

Juanita Mae Williams, 80, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Kentucky. The Ohio Furnace native was born March 1, 1935, the daughter of the late Charles and Nella Barker Stapleton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Williams.

Mrs. Williams attended Green Township Schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Otworth, Mildred Blevins and Clotine Lavender; and three brothers, James Stapleton, Glen Stapleton, and Edward Stapleton.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William Everett (Marcella) Stapleton, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; two sisters, Pauline Brown, of Ironton and Helen Gollihugh, of Ohio Furnace; a special niece, Mary Blevins, of Ironton; great-nieces and her caregivers that were her “girls,” April and Ashley Carmon, of Ironton

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Collin Haye

Collin Wade Haye, infant son of Travis and Tiffany Frye Haye, of South Point, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington. There will be no services. Tanna M. Walker, 59, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point.
