BELPRE — The Fairland Lady Dragons may not have been sure what to expect, but it was Belpre who got the surprise.

The Lady Dragons turned in a solid all-around performance and shut down the Belpre Lady Eagles 68-38 on Saturday.

“We didn’t know what to expect. We knew they shot a lot of 3s,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“But we played pretty good defense. We got a lot transition baskets. We got a lot of steals and we converted most of the time. I was very happy with our defense. Belpre remind us a lot of ourselves and we did a good job of containing them.”

Sophomore guard Emily Chapman did more than was expected of her as she scored a career-high 25 points to lead Fairland (10-1). Taylor Perry scored 13 points and Emma Fulton had 12.

Cheyenne Barker had 12 points and Hannah Lawrentz 10 for Belpre (8-6).

Chapman scored 7 points in the first quarter as Fairland built a 14-5 first quarter lead.

She had 8 more points in the second quarter as Fairland extended the lead to 33-14 at the half.

Chapman had 10 points and Fulton 6 in the third quarter which enabled the Lady Dragons to open up a comfortable 51-25 cushion.

On Monday, Fairland visits Rock Hill in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
