The Rev. James Allen Sands, 68, beloved husband of Patty Ann (Brackenridge) Sands, loving son of Donald A. and Mary Lou (Norris) Sands, devoted father of Jennifer Dawn (Jason) Prall, Shellie Annette (Youssouff Fall) Sands-Fall and the late Joy Andrea Sands, caring grandfather of Anthony Michael, Alyssa Joy and Matthew James Prall and Mohamed Fall, dear brother of Jeff (Susan) Sands and Jan Fitzpatrick and uncle to many nieces and nephews, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason. A second visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Mason United Methodist Church, 6315 S. Mason Montgomery Road, Mason.

Bill Lawless

March 19, 1930 — Jan. 12, 2016

Bill Lawless, 85, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at his daughters residence in Kitts Hill. He was surrounded by his family after a battle with bone cancer. The Ironton native was born March 19, 1930, the son of Charles Gilbert and Hazel Mae Phillips Lawless. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Joyce Grounds Lawless, whom he married Sept. 7, 1950, and passed away Dec. 20, 2007.

He was a 1948 graduate of Ironton High School, where he graduated with honors and also was a graduate of University of Cincinnati. He served our country with the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 from where he was honorably discharged. After returning to Ironton, he partnered with Darwin “Bozo” Bond and established Bond and Lawless Garage out 650 in Ironton, where they serviced the area well, including all of Ironton’s City cabs. He retired after 32 years from Ironton High School as transportation director and as an auto mechanic instructor from 1963 to 1995. He was a member of Central Christian Church for more than 50 years, where he served as an elder, a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He loved the Lord and dedicated his life helping to do the Lord’s work.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lawless; a sister, Elizabeth Lawless; and two brothers, Charles Lawless, Jr. and John Lawless

Bill is survived by his five loving children, Billie (Roger) Jarvis, of Ironton, Jacqueline (Roger) Castle, of Greenup, Kentucky, Karen (Brent) Nelson, of Rutledge, Tennessee, David (Susan) Lawless, of Ironton and Deborah (Lynn) Harper, of Kitts Hill; a sister, Ella Lou Lawless, of Ironton; a brother, Paul Handley, of Charleston, South Carolina; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Minister Willie Purdee officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons, William Lawless, Willie Nelson, Scott Hosey, Michael Lawless, Adam Harper, J.D. Vaughn, Sammy Nelson and honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Brandon Wilburn, Tyler Hosey, Chase McFann and Gage Butler. Dennis Downey

Aug. 3, 1931 — Jan. 14, 2016

Dennis Downey, 84, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at Jo-Lin Health Center in Ironton. The Adams County native was born Aug. 3, 1931, the son of the late Sudduth and Matilda “Sudie” Himes Downey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Delores Downey, whom he married Nov. 28, 1954, and passed away Oct. 31, 2012.

Dennis was a 1951 graduate of Ironton High School and a United States Army veteran. He was a former supervisor for the Dayton Malleable Iron Company and custodian for the Ironton City School System. He was also a member of Immanuel Methodist Church in Ironton.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and James Runyan, of Ironton, and Deborah and Michael Bartram, of Ashland; a son: Duane Downey, of Ironton; three grandchildren, Kyle Runyan and his wife, Kaycee, of Ironton, Sarah Williams and her husband Travis of Wurtland, Kentucky and Leah Watts and her husband Terry of Ashland; a sister, Sharon Phillips, of Zanesville; and six great grandchildren, Kalabe and Kaylee Runyan, Tyler and Mallory Williams, Lyndsi and Noah Watts.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the graveside service immediately following in Woodland Cemetery and pastor John Chapman officiating. Ronald Bartrum

Nov. 9, 1977— Jan. 13, 2016

Ronald Scott Bartrum, 38, of South Point, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center, Ashland. Ronald was born Nov. 9, 1977, in Ironton, a son of Ronald Bartrum and Pamela Bartrum Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nancy Bartrum; and granddaughter, Olivia McMillan. He is survived by his children, Brieanna McMillan, Zachary Bartrum and James Malone; grandfather, Paul Bartrum; sisters, Tracie Bartrum, Lea-Anne McClain and Hope Hamilton; brothers, Kyle Bartrum and Shane Bartrum; and a grandchild, Preston McMillan.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Main Street Baptist Church, Coal Grove, with pastors Donnie Spurlock, Dale Henson, Michael Dray and Ryan Rogers officiating. Richard Reiter

Aug. 4, 1945 — Jan. 11, 2016

Richard “Dickie” Harold Reiter, 70, of South Point, went home to his loving Savior on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland. He was born Aug. 4, 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Forrest and Vivian Reiter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Freddie (Amthor), who was killed in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of South Point; a son, David Reiter, of South Point; a brother, Forrest (Susan), of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania; a sister, Sally Shepherd, of Angola, Indiana; many nieces and nephews who loved him very much; a brother-in-law, Gary (Janice) Criswell, of South Point; mother-in-law, Maybell Criswell, of South Point; stepchildren, Jim (Lora) Shepherd, Joey (Chrystal) Shepherd, all of Willow Wood and Jeremiah Johnson, of Ashland; stepgrandchildren, Corey (Krista) Shepherd of Lima, (Nathan) Zephrah Hall, of Kentucky, James Shepherd, Jamie Miller of Caldwell and Ciarra (Marti) Coy; granddaughters, Tasha, Amber Pointer; great grandchildren, Cas Coy, Lochlan Pointer and three little angels, Amillia, Ariel and Dusti.

After serving in the United States Army, Dickie worked for Goodyear as a master mechanic. He retired from the Angola, Auburn and Avilla (Indiana) Distributor after 25 years. Prior to moving to South Point, Dickie was a member of the Orland Methodist Church. Dickie had a deep love for his family and friends and was especially close to his sister Sally. He enjoyed gardening, travelling with his wife, Shirley and enjoyed spending time outside.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial will take place at Flag Springs Cemetery, Patriot, with military honors. Friends may call from noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday before the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jack Lemley

Jack L. Lemley, 82, of Proctorville, died on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by Rev. Larry Lemley.
