PEDRO — The South Point Lady Pointers have been on a rollercoaster all season.

The Lady Pointers have been up and down in their play and they were that way in Wednesday’s Division III sectional tournament game against the Portsmouth West Lady Senators at Rock Hill High School.

This time the Lady Pointers were able to finish on an upward ride as they held off West 42-37.

“We have been up and down all year. Tonight we missed a lot of opportunities to pull away,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.

“But give credit to Portsmouth West. They kept playing and had a big fourth quarter. They put us on the foul line and we couldn’t make our free throws.”

The Lady Pointers struggled as they converted just 3-of-11 attempts including just 3-of-8 in the fourth quarter. However, the Lady Pointers’ defense forced 25 West turnovers to key the win.

West was 9-of-18 at the line including 4-of-9 in the fourth quarter.

Brooklyn Badgett scored 14 points and Kate Mundy had 12 to lead South Point.

Terra Butcher scored 13 for West.

South Point trailed 7-4 after the first quarter but rallied to take a 17-13 halftime lead as five different players scored in the second quarter.

Mundy had six points in the third quarter and it was 29-18.

West got within seven in the fourth quarter on a 3-poitner by Kayleigh Coleman, but the Lady Pointers got seven points from Badgett to hold on for the win.

South Point plays Wheelersburg at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in the sectional finals at Rock Hill.
