JACKSON — The South Point Pointers were hot, but the Oak Hill Oaks were even hotter than a $2 pistol.

Oak Hill used some red-hot shooting to beat the Pointers 63-47 on Monday in the Division III sectional tournament and gain a berth in the sectional finals at 6 p.m. Friday against top-seeded Fairland.

South Point was 18-of-37 from the floor for 49 percent, but the Oaks took just 30 shots and connected on 21 for a sizzling 70 percent. They were also 6-of-9 from behind the arc for 67 percent.

“They shot the lights out. They hit a couple of threes in the first quarter when we lost their shooters. On top of that we didn’t play very well. We didn’t finish when we needed,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.

South Point led most of the first quarter as Tayshaun Fox scored 10 points, but the Oaks rallied to take a 16-14 lead at the end of the quarter.

The game was tied at 21 in the second quarter when Oak Hill went on an 8-0 run to lead 29-22 at the half and never trailed the rest of the game.

South Point scored two baskets to begin the second half and cut the deficit to 29-26, but the Oaks went on an 8-2 run to lead 37-28.

Fox scored nine points in the fourth quarter but the Oaks made 14-of-18 free throws in the quarter to seal the win.

Fox led the Pointers with a game-high 19 points and he also had four steals. Jared Whitt added nine points and Logan Wade eight.

Twin brothers Landon and Nolan Carroll scored 14 points each, Mitchell Hale also scored 14 points and Dennis Fleming added 11 for the Oaks.

Nolan Carroll hit four 3-pointers while Landon Carroll was 9-of-10 from the foul line.

The Pointers end the season 8-15.
