Clyde Matthews

Sept. 12, 1936 — March 9, 2016

Clyde W. Matthews, 79, of Marysville, died Wednesday evening, March 9, 2016, at Memorial Gables following an extended illness with family at his side. He was retired from the O.M. Scott and Sons Co. and the Dublin City School System.

He was a longtime member of the Living Waters Church of God and will be remembered by family and friends as a hardworking man who was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Clyde was known very well at the Fairbanks Schools working tirelessly as a volunteer for 40 years with the FHS athletic program, having served in many capacities, and with the music department as a band booster. He loved all sports and coached many teams throughout the years.

He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan but was especially proud of the football team. In his early years, he was involved in Scouting as a Boy Scout Leader and when he wasn’t working at his full time jobs, he fulfilled his love of farming by helping a number of local farmers.

Clyde was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Lawrence County, to the late Clyde W. and Bertha M. Eaches Matthews. He married the former Freda M. Cade June 10, 1957, in Pedro. She preceded him in death March 31, 1989. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray Matthews; and in-laws, Glendon F. Cade Jr., Bill Cade, David Hackworth and Debra Russell.

He is survived by his children, Steven (Nina) Matthews, Robert F. (Katie) Matthews, Mark W. (SonOk) Matthews, Brenda M. (Larry) Kelly, Rebecca M. (Lee) Blankenship, Christopher B. (Chrystal) Matthews; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Matthews; a nephew, Bill (Linda) Turvey, who was loved like a son; grandchildren, Levi Matthews, Mona Sexton, Natasha and Alicia Matthews, Aaron Matthews, Laura and David Matthews, Nathan (Laurie), Matthew (Misty),and Paul (Amanda) Kelly and Sarah (Ed) Grant, Cory (Cecily), Seth (Stephanie) and Zach (Jessica) Blankenship, Morgan, Trinity, and Addison Matthews; 10 great-grandchildren; special cousins, Jan and Don Simpson; sisters, Janice Turvey, Nola Manley; in-laws, Kathleen (Ernest) Wilson, Betty (Truby) May, Maxine (John) Hoskins, Ronald (Betty) Cade, Deloris Hackworth, George Brenda) Cade, Kathy (Keith) Bevins, Dwayne (Teresa) Cade, Kay Cade, Shelby Cade; and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Calling hours will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Michael Roehrenbeck officiating. Burial will follow at the Sugar Creek Cemetery next to his wife.

Mary Neal

April 14, 1934 — March 10, 2016

Mary Ann Neal, 81, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Ironton, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at her residence. The Ironton native was born April 14, 1934, a daughter of the late William F. and Anna Mae Arthurs Clutters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Neal.

Mrs. Neal attended school in Coryville, was a homemaker was a member of the Storm’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George Clutters, Don Clutters and Carl Clutters; and a sister, Sharon Clutters.

She is survived by two sons, Roy (Bill Countryman) Neal, of Pennsylvania, and William (Denise) Neal, of North Carolina; three daughters, Trina Bentolini, of Florida, Tracey (Earl Barnes) Young, of North Carolina, and Janet Stoots, of West Virginia; two sisters, Freda Cade, of Waverly, and Patsy (Don) Hall, of Indiana; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Mamre Cemetery. Rudolph Lee Ferris, 88, of Chesapeake, died Friday, March 11, 2016, at home. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, by pastor Shirley Ball. Proctorville Masonic Lodge 550 F&AM will conduct Masonic rites and Proctorville VFW Post 6878 will conduct military rites at noon at the funeral home. There will be no visitation. Robert “Bob” Eugene Hardy, 81, of Ashland, died at his residence, on Thursday, March 10, 2016. Berchard J. Kerns, 62, of Pedro, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Willard Blankenship officiating. He was cremated.
