Betty Houck

Jan. 21, 1927 — March 18, 2016

Betty J. Houck, 89, of Ironton, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Gallia County native was born Jan. 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Clarence and Lucille Fife Mayes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Buford “Ben” Houck.

Mrs. Houck was a graduate of Gallia County High School, was a homemaker and attended Linnville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Shively; one brother, Chester Mayes; and two sisters, Margaret Danko and Vivian Ferguson.

She is survived by one son, Brent (Barbara) Houck, of Ironton; three grandchildren, Keri Taulbee, of Winchester, Kentucky, Douglas (Emily) Shively, of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Todd Shively of Ironton; one great-grandson, Ben Shively, of Wilmington, North Carolina; one special daughter, Lou (Brent) Pyles, of Ironton; and one special son, Thomas Artis, of Ironton.

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother Mike Triplett officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Charlene Thomas

July 18, 1935 — March 20, 2016

Charlene Ann Thomas, 80, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born July 18, 1935, a daughter of the late Charles V. and Lennie Wallenfeltz Henthorne. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Thomas, who passed away July 11, 2014.

Charlene was a 1953 graduate of Ironton High School and a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton. She was a former employee for Wilson’s Sporting Goods and retired from the City of Ironton, where she was a clerk in the Water Department.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. “Bobby” Thomas; two sisters, Dorothy Wilburn and June Washburn; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul L. and Geraldine White Thomas; and a brother-in-law, Danny Thomas.

She is survived by two sons, John Jeffrey (Janet) Thomas, of Cincinnati and Craig (Jami) Thomas, of Ironton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles “Chick” (Judy) Henthorne, of Ironton; brother-in-law, Galen “Jerry” Thomas, of St. Petersburg, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Christian Church with Minister Willie Purdee officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. David McKinney

Jan. 14, 1939 — March 20, 2016

David McKinney, 77, of Proctorville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at his residence. The Pike County, Kentucky native was born Jan. 14, 1939, a son of the late William Noah and Edna McQuire McKinney. He is survived by his wife, Mary Murphy McKinney, whom he married June 4, 2008.

Mr. McKinney attended school in Fort Gay, West Virginia and was a former employee for the Quality Casting Company for 20 years, retiring in 1997. He was saved, baptized and attended Christ Community Church in Proctorville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann McKinney; a brother, Max McKinney; a brother, Charles Mckinney; and a sister, Zella Sunpter.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Connie Sue Cooper, of Sciotoville; two brothers, Carl E. McKinney, of Sciotoville, and James D. McKinney, of Louisa, Kentucky; a step-son, Paul Vititoe, of Paintsville, Kentucky; two step-daughters, Kelli Hogston, of Lucasville, and Tina Ferguson, of Blaine, Kentucky; a special step-granddaughter, Nicki Lynn Harris and six other step-grandchildren; a special niece, Debra Mitchell; and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Kermit Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery and visitation will be Thursday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Jackson Brown

Jackson Lee Brown, 79, of Chesapeake, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Garnet McQuaid Brown. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with pastor Darrell Buttram and pastor Terry Wagner officiating. Shirley Dillon

May 25, 1952 — March 21, 2016

Shirley Ann Dillon, 63, of Ironton, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at her residence. The Ironton native was born May 25, 1952, the daughter of the late John W. Collins and Kathryn Dryden Collins.

Mrs. Dillon was a 1970 graduate of Coal Grove High School and attended the Huntington Junior Business College. She retired in 2012 from the Ironton Vision Center where she had worked 21 years as a optometric assistant. Shirley attended Cross Community Church (3C) in South Point, enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her grandchildren and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Clay Dillon III on Nov. 9, 2000; and her sister, Rosemary Collins.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Todd York, of Ironton; daughter, Teresa Dillon, of Ironton; two grandchildren, Will York and Emily York, both of Ironton; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Earlene Collins, of South Point. She is also survived by several close nieces, nephews and many friends

Shirley’s family will receive friends on Thursday from noon-2 p.m. at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with pastor Trent Carpenter officiating and burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Stella Jane Lynch, 46, of Kitts Hill, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Arrangements are pending at the Brown Funeral Chapel.

Donald Ray Mullins, 74, of Citra, Florida, formerly of Proctorville, died Saturday, March 19, 2016. A celebration of life service will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

William Curtis

William Frank Curtis, 55, of Proctorville, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. There will be private family services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
