Noble sparks Lady Panthers

CHESAPEAKE — It wasn’t Melanie Noble Night. She just thought it was.

Noble not only picked up a pitching win but went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and five runs batted in as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers beat the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Fighting Irish 13-1 in five innings on Tuesday.

Kelsey Huff was 2-3 with a double and a triple and two RBIs while Robin Frye was 2-2 with a triple as Chesapeake collected 11 hits.

The Lady Panthers got all the runs the needed as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Huff tripled, Noble walked and stole second, and Ryleigh Swann delivered a two-run single.

After St. Joseph got a run in the top of the second, Chesapeake extended the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the second.

Brianna Russell led off with a hit, Frye singled and Huff doubled them home. Laura Rice bunted for a hit and Brooke Webb was safe on a fielder’s choice.

Noble was safe on a fielder’s choice and Lyric Bair smacked a two-run single.

The Lady Panthers made it 10-1 in the third.

Jordan Storms walked and Frye tripled her home. Rice walked, Webb reached on a fielder’s choice and Noble grounded out to score a run.

The final three runs scored in the fourth.

Hope Jones walked to start the inning, Storms singled and Addi Fizer was safe on a fielder’s choice. Grace Hutchison and Chloe Handley walked to force in a run.

Jenny Mills reached on a fielder’s choice and then Noble doubled home a pair of runs.

Chesapeake hosts Portsmouth on Wednesday.
