SOUTH POINT — Chris Woodard might have some circus blood in him. He had Rock Hill batters doing a balancing act.

Woodard pitched a three-hitter as the South Point Pointers beat the Redmen 7-1 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Woodard struck out three and walked two in going the distance.

“(Woodard) kept us off-balance and we couldn’t get anything going. Give them a lot of credit,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

Sean McFann took the loss despite allowing only one earned run. He struck out five and walked four over five innings.

The Pointers went up 3-0 in the third inning. Christian Pritchard and Woodard walked and Douglas Shaffer reached on an error to load the bases.

Travis Dillon hit a sacrifice fly and Brandon Layne followed with a two-run single.

The lead went to 5-0 in the fourth.

Logan Wade walked, Tanner Hall was safe on an error, a ground out moved the runners up and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt scored a run. Hall then stole home to cap the rally.

Rock Hill (4-2, 1-2) got its run in the fifth when Kaleb Kidd and Jaret Bacorn both singled, moved up on a wild pitch and Trae Crabtree grounded out for the RBI.

The final South Point runs came in the sixth.

Wade singled, Pritchard walked and Shaffer had a two-run triple.

Shaffer went 2-4 with two RBIs to lead the Pointers’ offense.

South Point hosts St. Joseph on Thursday and Rock Hill visits Fairland on Friday.
