Lady Vikings utilize their depth to get easy win over New Boston

AID — The names changed, but not the results.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were able to play a lot of their players and they all contributed in a 13-0 five-inning Southern Ohio Conference win over the New Boston Lady Tigers on Tuesday.

“We were able to get some different kids in the game and they did a good job and contributed,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie’ Estep.

Stephanie Brown pitched a four-hitter as she struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Symmes Valley (13-2, 9-0) had 10 hits with seven different players reaching safely.

Sierra Ross was 3-3, Kara Saunders 2-3, Hannah Newcomb 1-1, Kaitlyn Payne and Tiara Hatfield 1-1 and each had a double, and Taylor Webb was 1-3 with a triple and Caitlin Carpenter was also 1-3.

The Lady Vikings went in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Brown and Payne both walked and stole a base. Hatfield doubled for a run and Ross singled in the second run.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third when Payne reached on an error, Sarah Kingery walked and Ross and Saunders had RBI singles.

The Lady VIkings erupted for nine runs in the fourth as they took advantage of four errors, two walks and a hit batsman.

Ross, Saunders, Hatfield and Carpenter all had RBI singles while Payne delivered a two-run double.

Symmes Valley visits Portsmouth Notre Dame on Wednesday.
