PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen gave too much of themselves.

The Redmen gave up five walks, three hit batters and a key error as they lost 3-1 to the Gallipolis Blue Devils on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Just too many walks and too many hit batters,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral. “It was a well-played game. We had our chances. Sean (McFann) threw well, we just couldn’t get anything going.”

The Blue Devills took the lead in the first inning with two unearned runs.

Kole Carter walked, Matt Bailey put down a sacrifice bunt, Eric Ward reached on a two-out error and Jeremy Brumfield was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Ryan Terry followed with a two-run double.

The league-champion Blue Devils got a run in the second with two outs when Braden Simms singled, Carter was hit by a pitch, Bailey walked and Anthony Sipple singled.

Rock Hill (11-10) got its run in the seventh inning.

Kaleb Kidd walked, Kyle Stanfield and Trae Crabtree singled to load the bases and Landon Smith hit into a double play as pinch-runner Gavin Jenkins scored.

Stanfield was 2-3 with a double as the Redmen managed just four hits.

Rock Hill played at Portsmouth Notre Dame’s Wood Bat Tournament on Saturday and visits Chesapeake on Wednesday in the Division III sectional tournament.
