Flyers fall to PND in tourney

PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth Notre Dame came in to the Division IV sectional title game a heavy favorite and ranked fifth in the coaches’ poll.

The Titans got the win to continue their season, but the St. Joseph Flyers didn’t make it easy for them.

C.J. Corns and Drew Cassidy combined on a one-hitter as the Titans (17-6) managed a 4-0 win over the youth Flyers.

The game was tied until the third when the Titans got a run. They added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Brad Rist pitched well in defeat. Rist went six innings, gave up just six hits, struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Zac McGraw went 1-2 for the Flyers’ hit.
