SCIOTOVILLE — Ask and ye shall receive.

Well, maybe coach Lisa Bryant was making a request when she was talking to her team at halftime, she got the results she wanted as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings shut down the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 52-26 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Symmes Valley (4-6, 4-3) was leading 26-19 at the half when Bryant had a talk with her team.

“I told our players to play better defense in the second half and we did,” said Bryant as the Lady Vikings limited East to 7 points in the second half.

“We played really good defense tonight. All of our kids did a super job. We contained their post player (Toni Lang) to only four points and their high scorer (Meghan Williams) to only 11 points.”

All of Williams’ points came in the first half.

Jessie Morris had 6 points while Kayla Hayes and Erica Corn added 4 each to give the Lady Vikings a 19-4 first quarter lead.

East made 9 foul shots in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 26-19 at the break.

Hayes and Wall combined for 10 points in the third quarter and the defense held East to just 2 points as the lead jumped to 36-21.

Nikki Nance scored 5 points in the fourth quarter to match all of East’s output as the Lady Vikings cruised to the win.

Hayes — a freshman — finished with 15 points to lead the Lady Vikings. Morris had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

“Kayla seems to be getting better every game. Jessie Morris had a really balanced game tonight as well,” said Bryant.

Nance finished with 7 points and Brooke Skinner had 9 rebounds.
