Derrick Barnes

Oct. 22, 1982 — May 20, 2016

Derrick K. Barnes, 33, of Ironton, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born Oct. 22, 1982.

Derrick worked for SES with a great group of guys. He had a love for music, spending time with his family and friends.

Derrick was preceeded in death by maternal grandmother, Shirley Runyon; paternal grandparents, Carl and Norma Barnes; and a look-a-like cousin, Joey Runyon.

He is survived by mother, Gail (Raymond) McClurg, of Greenup, Kentucky; father, Shayne (Cindy) Barnes, of Ironton; two children, Madison Barnes, of Ironton, and Shayden Barnes, of Ironton; one brother, Bradley (Danielle) McClurg, of Greenup, Kentucky; three sisters, Shyla (Ryan) Rodkey, of Ashland, Kentucky, Kimberly (Josh) Peyton, of Ironton, and Ashley (Christopher) Kellogg, of Ironton; grandfather, Charles Runyon, of Marion; great-grandfather, Bill McClurg, of Greenup, Kentucky; lifelong friend, Allison McCoy; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Matt O’Bryant officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service. Jonathan Bailey

Dec. 19, 1977 — May 19, 2016

Jonathan Kelly Bailey passed away on May 19, 2016. He was born Dec. 19, 1977, in Cincinnati. He lived most of his life in Berea, Kentucky, and currently resided in St. Louis, Missouri, where his life was taken in a motorcycle accident.

Jonathan attended Eastern Kentucky University and was a 1996 Madison Southern High School graduate. He played four years of football, baseball and basketball. He acquired many accolades for his athletic abilities. For the past year, Jonathan was general manager of Gateway Harley Davidson in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to that, he was sales manager for Man-O-War Harley Davidson. He made a major positive impact on all who knew him. His family and many friends will miss him.

He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Bailey; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Phyllis Rawlins; and paternal grandparents, John K. and Nola Bailey.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Bailey Carpenter; and stepfather, Norman “Cotton” Carpenter; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Stevie Isaacs and Bro. David Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Toby Coyle, Kendall Bailey, Christopher West, Hunter Cannon, Bryan Davis, Chris Causey, Brian Crawford and Brian Simpson. Honorary bearers will be Jared Carpenter, John Bailey, Mike Coyle, Ronnie Devere, Dylan Waddle, Jeremy Johnson, Scotty Pennington, Michael Belt and Steve Owen.

Harley Adkins

Harley Adkins, 77, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mann Adkins. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

Donald Bazell

Donald W. Bazell, 75, of Coal Grove, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. Arrangements are pending at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point.

 

Frederic Bench

Frederic “Fred” W. Bench, 72, of Columbus, formerly of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Astoria Place, of Columbus. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with the Rev. Kevin Chambers officiating. There will be no public visitation.
