Once again the Briggs Lawrence County Library is gearing up for its summer reading programs. Each year starting in June through the end of July the library has a special reading program for both adults and children. Children can read as many books or magazines that they want. Then they have a chance for prizes each week.

For the adults, the time frame is the same, but the requirements are a little different.

From June 1 through July 31, adult readers at the library are required to read 10 books during that two-month time frame. For their efforts, they have a chance to choose from three prizes this year — a miniature Mason Jar or two separate cell phone holders.

While it is nice to win prizes, the best part of the summer event is not only do you get the chance to focus on reading, but you get a chance to expand your knowledge and just enjoy the pleasure of reading. The Briggs library and all its branches should be commended for this special effort of promoting the joy of reading.

The library has done this for many years, and while a number of patrons sign up, all of them don’t finish meeting the simple 10-book goal. The ones who do have the pleasure of accomplishing something that is fun and rewarding.
