U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said he is confident in his party’s nominee, former U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, to win Ohio’s electoral votes next month.

Following a roundtable disussion with local and city leaders in Ironton on Wednesday, Brown was asked for his take on the presidential race with The Tribune.

“Look at the contrast,” Brown said of Clinton and her Republican rival, real estate tycoon and reality TV star Donald Trump.

“She’s the most qualified nominee for the office since Eisenhower,” he said. “She’s running against a man, who, frankly, doesn’t have the temperament and doesn’t have the experience to be president.”

Brown said when voters consider both candidates, he feels they will break for Clinton.

“I find when they look at who they want be commander and chief and have access to the nuclear codes, she wins, hands down,” he said.

As it has been in recent presidential races, Ohio is a swing state in 2016 and polling has been tight all year, with Clinton and Trump trading places for a lead.

The latest survey, from Quinnipiac University, taken from Oct. 10-16, showed the two candidates tied at 45 percent each.
