PROCTORVILLE — The Lawrence County Festival of Trees and Wreaths, in its second year, is set for Nov. 22-26 at the Ohio University Southern Proctorville Center.

Shirley Dyer, the director of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, who are organizing the event, said a VIP reception, by invitation, will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

The festival will be open to the public from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $6.

Dyer said the event has grown since last year and will feature 31 trees.

“It’s a really beautiful venue,” she said. “Once we get it decorated, everyone is invited.”

The festival will also feature a completion from third grade classes at area schools, who are submitting trees to be judged. Many classes decorate a tree according to a theme. Last year’s winner was Burlington Elementary, which won with a Harry Potter tree.

A Kids Day will take place on Saturday, Dyer said. The cost of admission will be waived for a donation of nonperishable food. From 8 a.m.-noon, the festival will host a breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus and games for the children.

Dyer said judging in all categories should be completed before the opening reception, so that winning ribbons can be displayed with the trees.
