PEDRO — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were quite a hit in their season opening games.
Playing in Rock Hill’s “Queen of the Hill” tournament, Ironton collected 30 hits and routed the Northwest Lady Mohawks 20-0 in five innings and the Piketon Lady Redstreaks 14-5.
Pitchers Mary Beth Burton and Peighton Rowe combined on a one-hitter in the first game with Burton getting the win, and the duo reversed roles in the second game with Rowe picking up the win as the pair allowed seven hits.
But the big story was the offense.
A total of 12 batters got hits in the first game led by Aley Carmon who was 4-4 with four runs batted in, two doubles and a triple.
Haylee Stevens was 2-4 with a triple and two RBI, Rowe 1-2 with a triple and two RBI, Kenzie Cremeens 1-3 with two RBI, Ruthie Paholsky 2-2 with a double and two RBI, Demi Sands 1-2 with a double and two RBI, M’Kenzie McMaster 1-1 with a triple and an RBI, Riley Schreck 2-2 with a triple and two RBI, Shay Cox 2-4, Rylie Vaughn 1-2 and an RBI, Taiya Hamlet 1-2 and Sophia Caines 1-1 with a double and RBI.
In the second game, Ironton opened up a 10-0 lead before Piketon got five runs in the fifth.
But the Lady Fighting Tigers answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to end any comeback hopes of the Lady Redstreaks.
Cremeens and Paholsky had the big sticks in an 11-hit attack. Cremeens was 3-4 with a triple and three RBI and Paholsky 3-4 with three RBI.
Stevens was 2-4 with a triple and two RBI, Carmon 1-4, a double and two RBI, McMaster 1-3 and Vaughn 1-4 and an RBI.
Ironton hosts Wellston at 5 p.m. on Monday.
