Course provides recreation

Every so often, a new study will be released that labels the Appalachian region unhealthy, whether it is due to lack of exercise, poor diet or other factors.

This is why it is imperative to promote healthy lifestyles, beginning with the area’s youth.

Recently, South Point high and middle schools built a disc golf course on the grounds of the school complex, which is open, not just to students, but to the community.

The benefits of such a course are evident. As one of the students using it last week said, “it gets you walking.”

Ben Coleman, the principal of the high school, and Greg Saunders, the assistant principal of the middle school, should be commended for their efforts to give people in the region a fun, family-friendly option for physical activity and recreation.
