Top athletes reach D2 regional meet

Local track athletes earned a trip to the Division II regional track meet at Athens High School on Thursday and Saturday.
At last Saturday’s district meet, the top four finishers in each event advanced to the regionals.
Ironton Fighting Tigers’ Ryan Bryant had the highest finish among the boys on the day. He was second in the shot put with a heave of 46-feet, 6-inches to punch his ticket to the regional meet.
South Point Pointers’ Donte Wright was third in the 100-meter dash at 11.5 and Fairland Dragons’ Ty Staten was fourth at 11.59 seconds as both qualified for the regional.
Wright was also fifth in the 200 meters at 23.43.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Fairland’s Greg Keeney was third at 43.18 seconds. The Dragons Bryce Day was third in the 3200-meter run at 10:18.05 and Hunter Ashton was third in the high jump at 6-1.
Fairland’s foursome of Wyatt Morris, Drew Blatt, Robbie McFarland and Ty Staten ran a 45.19 to place third in the 4×100-meter relay.
Ironton’s Hunter Humphreys was eighth in the shot put with a 41-10.75 distance.
Fairland’s Chase Watts was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.96 seconds, Ethan Lafon was seventh in the 3200 meters at 10:55.91, Spencer Harris fifth in the high jump at 5-10, Ashton fifth (19-8) and Morris sixth (18-10.5) in the long jump.
In the 4×200 relay, Fairland ran a 1:33.78 as Morris, Blatt, McFarland and Staten were fifth while South Point’s Joel Morrison, Ryan Brown, Chris Tatlonghari and Wright were seventh at 1:35.82.
In the girls’ meet, Fairland Lady Dragons Jackie Wagner was first in the discus with a toss of 120-07.
Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ Loralei Griffiths was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a times of 17.03 to advance to the regional meet. Griffiths was also seventh in the pole vault as she cleared 7-6.
Ironton teammate Kyleigh Pauley was fourth in the 100-meter dash at 13.29 seconds to get a ticket to the regional meet.
Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Kelsie Hegemeyer was third in the 800 meters with a 2:25.59 clocking. Hegemeyer was also seventh in the long jump at 15-0.75.
The Lady Panthers’ Kelly Romans was tied for third in the pole vault at 9-6.
The Lady Dragons’ quartet of Melia Tubbs, Karli Fuller, Tori Hall and Taylor Webb was fourth with a 53.95 time. Fairland’s Allie Marshall was third in the 200-meter dash at 27.99 seconds while McKenna Pannell was fourth in the 3200 run at 12:26.06.
Fairland’s Ciarra Brown was fifth in the 100 hurdles at 17.31. Tubbs was eighth in the 100 meters at 14.03 and Kelsey Warnock fifth in the shot put with a toss of 30-11.
Rock Hill’s Maddie Scott was sixth in the shot put with a 30-10.5 distance.
The Lady Dragons’ 4×200 relay team of Julie Price, Marshall, Fuller and Tubbs was fifth with a 1:56.07 time. Marshall was sixth in the 400 meters at 1:05.48.
In the 300-meter hurdles, South Point’s Lexie Sharp was fifth (50.43) and the Lady Dragons’ Karli Fuller (52.64) was seventh.
The Lady Panthers Kelly Romans, Mairah Ramey, Kylie Johnson and Hegemeyer was sixth in the 4×400 relay at 4:34.72.
Tuesday’s regional qualifiers: Ironton’s Eli Willis in the pole vault; Fairland’s Robbie McFarland in the pole vault; South Point’s Ryan Brown in the pole vault; Fairland’s Drake Cox in the discus; Fairland Lady Dragons’ Allie Marshall in the high jump.
